Read full article here: https://readnews.io/t4c7y0 The "Hamilton" star is using the song "Wait For It" from the hit Broadway musical for a new PSA from RepresentUS, in the midst of the election. The message is about waiting for all the votes to be tallied in the election. "Look, this is pretty clear: Every American who voted deserves to have their voice heard. In this historic election, millions of you have mailed in your ballots or dropped them off, and all of us deserve to be counted," he said. Former CIA station chief Dan Hoffman emphasized on Saturday the need for the U. S.  government to maintain transparency as foreign adversaries could exploit the presidents coronavirus diagnosis. His comments cameafter the Pentagon told the public that the military was ready if needed during these uncertain times. "I think its critically important for the government in this case, the Department of Defense both to reassure our allies and our citizens at home as well as deter our enemies by making those sorts of public statements," he told Fox News host Bill Hemmer. Hemmer asked Hoffman to describe, based on his experience, what was happening behind the scenes in the U. S.  government. AFTER COVID DIAGNOSIS, PENTAGON SAYS ALERT LEVELS REMAIN UNCHANGED"I think that for sure our intelligence community is out there collecting intelligence on some of the flashpoints around the world that might be the South China Sea, Taiwan, the cross-straits of Taiwan and China, for sure Iraq, where Iranian militias may seek to use this as an opportunity to target us, North Korea well be on alert for cyber intrusions and other things," he said. "Hoffman specified that he thought the U. S.  would see "a lot of espionage from our enemies, particularly from Russia and China. "

With Cam Newton out for this weeks game against the Chiefs after testing positive for COVID-19, the Patriots will have to start someone else under center. It appears that Brian Hoyer will be the Patriots starting quarterback against the Chiefs, NFL Networks Ian Rapaport reported. The Patriots matchup with the Chiefs was originally scheduled for 4:25 p. m.  on Sunday, but it has been postponed to either Monday or Tuesday, the NFL said in a statement.  The Patriots were scheduled to travel to Kansas City at 1 p. m.  on Saturday.  That trip is now delayed as they await more test results and guidance from the NFL, according to ESPNs Adam Schefter.  Tuesday is also the more likely day the Patriots will play the Chiefs, Schefter reported. Hoyer has been the Patriots backup quarterback for the first three games of the season.  Jarret Stidham, who was expected by many to be the Patriots starting quarterback before Newton was signed, has been a healthy scratch in all three games this season. This is Hoyers sixth season with the Patriots.  Hes started 38 regular-season games over his 12-year career, but this would be his first start with the Patriots.  He has a 16-22 record in games hes started.

Reasons to watch the Red Sox this season were scarcer than victories, which is saying something considering they won 24 games, or as many as the 1986 version of Roger Clemens. Tanner Houcks September splash was encouraging.  Alex Verdugo performed like the complete player we thought Andrew Benintendi would be.  Xander Bogaerts was his usual self, a fine player and a true pro. But beyond that, the most fulfilling reason to watch the Red Sox was hearing Dave OBrien, Jerry Remy, and Dennis Eckersley call the games on NESN.

US tops 5 million confirmed virus cases, to Europes alarm

ROME  With confirmed coronavirus cases in the U. S.  hitting 5 million Sunday, by far the highest of any country, the failure of the most powerful nation in the world to contain the scourge has been met with astonishment and alarm in Europe. Perhaps nowhere outside the U. S.  is Americas bungled virus response viewed with more consternation than in Italy, which was ground zero of Europes epidemic.  Italians were unprepared when the outbreak exploded in February, and the country still has one of the worlds highest official death tolls at over 35,000. But after a strict nationwide, 10-week lockdown, vigilant tracing of new clusters and general acceptance of mask mandates and social distancing, Italy has become a model of virus containment. Dont they care about their health? a mask-clad Patrizia Antonini asked about people in the United States as she walked with friends along the banks of Lake Bracciano, north of Rome.  They need to take our precautions.   They need a real lockdown. Much of the incredulity in Europe stems from the fact that America had the benefit of time, European experience and medical know-how to treat the virus that the continent itself didnt have when the first COVID-19 patients started filling intensive care units. More than four months into a sustained outbreak, the U. S.  reached the 5 million mark, according to the running count kept by Johns Hopkins University.  Health officials believe the actual number is perhaps 10 times higher, or closer to 50 million, given testing limitations and the fact that as many as 40% of all those who are infected have no symptoms. We Italians always saw America as a model, said Massimo Franco, a columnist with daily Corriere della Sera.  But with this virus weve discovered a country that is very fragile, with bad infrastructure and a public health system that is nonexistent. With Americas worlds-highest death toll of more than 160,000, its politicized

Early voting opens in virus-era NT poll

Early voting in the Northern Territory election starts on Monday with 111 candidates lining up for the poll. A total of 141,225 Territorians are now on the electoral roll and eligible to vote in the August 22 election. So far 6500 Territorians have applied for postal votes, but many more are expected. The NT has single-digit active COVID-19 cases, but no evidence of community transmission. The Northern Territory Electoral Commission is encouraging voters to use early and postal voting as part of its strategy to minimise the spread of the virus. "Both options will limit the congregation of people in one location, and allow Territorians to vote without having to travel," the commission said. "It is expected there will be an increase in electors utilising these voting methods. "At the 2016 election just under 35 per cent of votes were cast on election day, with the figure expected to fall well below that in this years poll. Opinion polls are pointing to Labor, led by Chief Minister Michael Gunner, retaining majority government in the 25-seat assembly. The Gunner government has been dogged by concerns about the struggling NT economy and its handling of law and order issues. But Mr Gunner has been praised for his efforts in tackling COVID-19 and reopening the NTs economy. Country Liberal Party leader Lia Finocchiaro, who took over in February, has a huge task to take her party from two seats to victory. Preferences from the fledgling Territory Alliance and independents will be crucial to a CLP win.

Shelf life of 21 days or more could save red meat waste, say UK industry...

Use-by dates on red meat in the UK should be extended, say industry experts who are lobbying the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to endorse scrapping the current 10-day cap and extending it to 21 days or more. According to 2008 guidance from the FSA, clarified in 2017, the shelf life of either vacuum- or gas-packaged fresh meat kept at 3-8C should be limited to 10 days unless suitable grounds for a longer shelf life can be identified, such as high salt content or low pH. Industry experts are contesting the guidelines, calling for a return to the previous situation in which manufacturers and retailers determined use-by dates, a shift that could see the shelf life of packaged and chilled red meat extended to three weeks or more. We didnt need this 10-day cap, it was ridiculous this was brought in, said David Lindars, the technical operations director of the British Meat Processors Association (BMPA),, adding that legislation already stated that food must be proven safe for the given shelf life. Beef is safe at 21 days.  You can go beyond that, he said, adding 21 days is simply a common timeframe used in marketing beef. A report by the BMPA and Meat and Livestock Australia Limited, published last year with support from a host of supermarkets, contested the FSAs guidelines, finding a maximum shelf life at 3-8C of up to 23 days for beef, 27 days for lamb, and 18 days for pork provided a high level of protection against Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium behind life-threatening botulism poisoning. The report also revealed results from experiments in which samples of meat were exposed to such bacteria and kept at 8C.  The results, it said, showed that beef did not become toxic before day 50, lamb before day 35, and pork before day 25. The report suggested ditching the 10-day shelf-life cap would not only benefit retailers and producers, but could also help to reduce food waste. According to Wrap, the Waste and Resources Action Programme,

After many years of being looked down on, motels are getting new respect in the era of social distancing. Guests at open-corridor inns may come and go without passing through crowded lobbies, packed elevators or enclosed hallways where viruses may linger. In outdoor corridors, people feel safe, said Mike Riverside of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association.  People can go directly to their rooms and potentially reduce exposure to the coronavirus. Outdoor-facing, low-rise motels and hotels also stand to benefit from being typically reached by car, unlike big resorts and urban hotels that rely on air travel to deliver most guests.  With many still apprehensive about flying, drive-to destinations are widely expected to be the first beneficiaries of the gradual return of pleasure jaunts away from home. There is pent-up demand for leisure travel and nobody is too excited to share an elevator, said Patrick Scholes, an analyst who follows the lodging and leisure industries for investment bank SunTrust Robinson Humphrey.  For the moment, it definitely does give you an advantage to have outdoor corridors in your hotel. Inns where every guests front door opens to the elements loom large in the collective memories of Americans, but they are for the most part relics of the 20th century car culture that gave middle-class people the chance to explore their country.  At the beginning of auto travel, overnight options were mostly limited to proper city-style hotels or camping near the side of the road. Soon bare-bones cabin camps made up of individual shacks sprang up around rural gas stations.  Many were so primitive that mattresses and sheets cost extra. By the 1930s, according to Smithsonian Magazine, a classier alternative emerged known as cottage courts, made up of tiny cookie-cutter cottages built around a public lawn.  Gas stations and restaurants began to appear nearby, and the freedom of the road gained a romantic allure.

Nat Fyfe could return to face Collingwood on Sunday, but theres bad news for a number of his teammates. Michael Walters (hamstring) and Jesse Hogan (calf) will miss the clash with the Pies, while it has been confirmed young Darcy Tucker wont play again this season. Darcy was forced forward (in the match against Geelong) and it damaged the hamstring, Fremantles high performance manager Jason Weber said. Hell be going for surgery later this week and well move forward from there. Jesse (Hogan) ran this morning with the group and looks like another week probably. Weber was unable to give a return date on Walters, who limped off late in the loss to Geelong. He joins defenders Alex Pearce (season), Joel Hamling (no timeframe given), Griffin Logue (seven-nine weeks), Hayden Young (7-11 weeks) and Sam Switkowski (on timeframe given) on the sidelines. He cramped quite late, he came off and we kept him off as a precaution, Weber said. At this stage, its just a watch and see to see how he recovers. Stephen Hill is set to miss at least another week due to an adductor strain, while Sam Sturt (ankle) and Stefan Giro (ankle) are also sidelined. Stefans been really good, hes turned a corner a couple of weeks ago so were looking to try and progress him into football this week and, hopefully, see him back from a long lay-off in the next few weeks, Weber said. Sams probably gone a little bit slower than we hoped with his ankle. He had damage from a marking contest at the end of training a couple of weeks ago. Hes progressing along and were looking forward to seeing him in a few weeks. In some rare good news on the injury front for Fremantle, Fyfe (hamstring) trained strongly on Wednesday with a decision to be made on Friday. Nats had a really strong training progression over the past couple of weeks, Weber said. He had an excellent session this morning with the group and

NEW DELHI: Passengers booking tickets through travel agents on international flightsoperating under the Vande Bharat Missionmust not pay more than the fares mentioned on Air Indias website, the Civil Aviation Ministry said on Wednesday. Scheduled international passenger flights continue to remain suspended in India since March 23 amid the coronaviruspandemic. However, since May 6, international charter flights have been operated by Air India under the Vande Bharat Mission to help stranded people reach their destinations. Private carriers have also operated a certain number of flights under this mission. "Passengers booking tickets for #VBM flights through travel agents, may please note that they should not pay more than the fares mentioned on the Air India website. Passengers facing issues of overcharging by travel agents may write to gmsm@airindia. in," the ministry said on Twitter. India had on July 16 formed bilateral air bubbles with countries like the US, Germany and France that allows airlines of both the countries in the pact to operate special international charter flights. The aviation sector has been significantly impacted due to the travel restrictions imposed in India and other countries in view of the coronavirus pandemic. All airlines in India have taken cost-cutting measures such as pay cuts, leave without pay and firing of employees in order to conserve cash. India resumed domestic passenger flights from May 25 after a gap of two months due to the coronavirus pandemic. The airlines have been allowed to operate only a maximum of 45 per cent of their pre-Coviddomestic flights. However, occupancy rate in Indian domestic flights has been around just 50-60 per cent since May 25.

Coronavirus: Researchers identify six different types of COVID-19

Symptoms developed within the first week of the onset of a COVID-19 infection can determine the likelihood of a patient requiring serious medical attention by the end of week two, according to researchers at Kings College in London. The new study, which wasnt peer-reviewed but was replicated in an independent data set, could help doctors identify the patients who require care and treat them earlier, possibly saving lives.  It showed a wide variety of outcomes and symptoms, some of which hadnt previously been strongly connected to COVID-19. These findings have important implications for care and monitoring of people who are most vulnerable to severe COVID-19, Dr.  Claire Steves, of Kings College, said in a release.  If you can predict who these people are at day five, you have time to give them support and early interventions  simple care that could be given at home, preventing hospitalizations and saving lives. There were six distinct types of the virus that appeared in different clusters of symptoms in patients by the fifth day symptoms set in, according to an analysis of about 1,600 patients in the U. S.  and U. K.  who logged their symptoms during March and April.  Most COVID-19 patients who require breathing support first visit a hospital around the 13th day after their first symptoms, researchers said, potentially shaving eight days off the typical timeline before medical intervention. The six clusters can be broken down into two groups: three clusters of less severe symptoms  more prevalent in younger and healthier patients  and three clusters defined as severe symptoms, which were more likely to come in patients who were older or had preexisting conditions. The researchers break them down as such, in order of severity with their key distinctions in bold:The first group made up the largest share of participants, with a sample of 462, while there were 315 in the second group, 216 in the third, 280 in

Tesla engineer upgrades chocolate chips

Silicon Valley, long obsessed with computer chips, is now disrupting chocolate ones. Remy Labesque, a Los-Angeles based industrial engineer working for Elon Musks Tesla, has re-engineered the chocolate chip for the optimization-obsessed set. Thirty bucks gets you 17. 6 ounces, or about 142, of the expertly forged chocolate geodes, which are molded to melt at the right rate, according to Todd Masonis, co-founder of San FranciscosDandelion Chocolate, which makes and sells the chips. According to Masonis, typical mass-produced chips, chunks, squares and discs cant compete with his chocolate chip 2. 0. The standard way that everyone makes chocolate chips is that its deposited off the factory line, but thats not the best way to taste it, said the startup founder turned chocolate purveyor, who has a degree in symbolic systems with a specialty in computational linguistics. His flattened pyramid-like structures feature thick middles and thinly tapered edges.  A 15-degree slope, according to blueprints for the morsel, creates a glossy finish when baked. BARTENDERS UNEXPECTED DEATH INSPIRES OTHERS TO LEAVE GENEROUS TIPS FOR SERVERSMasonis said it took years to realize Labesques original multifaceted mold.  We did 3-D renderings of different options for shapes, test prints of a few molds and, of course, baking tests, he said.  The goal? To emphasize the complex chips cacao bean essence, which is said to have notes of chocolate buttercream frosting and banana. We found that if you take a huge chunk of chocolate and put it in your mouth, that taste can be overwhelming, said Masonis.  The flat shape helps slow down the experience. The single-origin chocolate is carefully tempered  a process where chocolate is heated then cooled to create a hard shell  and is designed to melt without ruining the structural integrity of its mold-cast hard edge.  The perfect chip weight, according to the engineers, is 4.

What Changes in the First Year of Marriage?

People didnt really realize that we were getting married  in my culture, its called a Nikkah, she added.  And thats basically like, youre legally married. After their Nikkah, Ms.  Atiq and Mr.  Wiseman, a mortgage professional, purchased their home, which they renovated while preparing for a bigger wedding celebration in 2016. Some couples saw their wedding as the first way to establish their identity as a couple outside their families.  Mr.  Osman said of his wedding to Mr.  Goodemoot, Because were a gay couple and because we paid for it ourselves, we really had a lot of liberty to do whatever we wanted because we didnt have peoples opinions getting in the way.  And I think that really helped for us.  I think it made it less stressful. Moving Forward TogetherIf marriage is not so different from cohabitation, why are millennials still doing it? The answer  at least according to the couples interviewed  does not really boil down to tax benefits or involve much practicality at all. I finally felt like I was honoring Seth with the title that he always had, said Mr.  Dager of his husband, Mr.  Ball.  For so many years prior to our wedding, it just seemed so odd to call him anything other than my husband.  I just felt much more relaxed to finally be living what we had already been living, but have it finally be legal. According to a 2019 Pew Research Center study, there seems to be intangible benefits to marriage that are not always present in cohabiting relationships.  Married adults are more likely than cohabiting adults to say that things are going very well in their relationships (58 percent to 41 percent).  And, according to the study, they are more likely to say that they trust their partners to be faithful to them and to make responsible financial decisions.

Amazon boss Bezos launches $10 bn fund to combat climate change - Times ...

NEW YORK: Amazon founder Jeff Bezossaid Monday that he plans to spend $10 billion of his own fortune to help fight climate changeBezos, the worlds richest man, said in an Instagram post that hell start giving grants this summer to scientists, activists and nonprofits working to protect the earth. "I want to work alongside others both to amplify known ways and to explore new ways of fighting the devastating impact of climate change, Bezos said in the post. Amazon, the company Bezos runs, has an enormous carbon foodprint.  Last year, Amazon officials said the company would work to have 100% of its energy use come from solar panels and other renewable energy by 2030. The online retailer relies on fossil fuels to power planes, trucks and vans in order to ship billions of items all around the world.  Amazon workers in its Seattle headquarters have been vocal in criticizing some of the companys practices, pushing it to do more to combat climate change. Bezos said in the post Monday that he will call his new initiative the Bezos Earth Fund.  An Amazon spokesman confirmed that Bezos will be using his own money for the fund. Despite being among the richest people in the world, Bezos only recently became active in donating money to causes as other billionaires like Bill Gates and Warren Buffetthave done.  In 2018, Bezos started another fund, committing $2 billion of his own money to open preschools in low-income neighborhoods and give money to nonprofits that help homeless families. Bezos, who founded Amazon 25 years ago, has a stake in the company that is worth more than $100 billion.

A judge on Monday refused to free a Michigan teenager who was incarcerated in May after she allegedly violated probation byfailing to finish heronline schoolwork, according to a report. Judge Mary Ellen Brennan, the presiding judge of the Oakland County Family Court Division, said the girl, identified as Grace, will benefit from ongoing treatment at a Detroit areajuvenile detention centerand was not yet ready to return to her mother. I think you are exactly where you are supposed to be, Brennan told Grace, her middle name, according to the ProPublica report on Monday.  You are blooming there, but there is more work to be done. MICHIGAN GIRL SENT TO JUVENILE DETENTION FOR NOT DOING ONLINE SCHOOLWORK: REPORTGrace was previously placed on probation after an allegedfight with her mother and for thefts at school, the report said. Police had been called to the familys home in the past.  She has been in custody at Childrens Village juvenile detention centerfor more than two months now after Brennan ruled she violated her probation on May 14 -- because one of the terms was completing her online coursework amid thecoronavirus pandemic, according to ProPublica last Tuesday. Grace has ADHD, a learning disorder that she said causedher to feel unmotivated and overwhelmed while online learning, the report said. She was not detained because she didnt turn her homework in, Brennan said during the hearing on Monday.  She was detained because I found her to be a threat of harm to her mother based on everything I knew. The case sparked several protests last week, with Michigan state and federal lawmakers calling for Graces release. Andrew McCarthy: Supreme Court constitutionally accurate in allowing exe...

Tuesday morning, the Justice Department carried out the execution by lethal injection of a White supremacist convicted of brutally murdering a husband, wifeand their 8-year-old daughter in 1996.  The death sentence of Daniel Lee Lewis was carried out at the federal penitentiary in Terre Haute, Ind.  It was the first execution of a federal capital sentence in 17 years. In the wee hours Tuesday morning,as NRs Brittany Bernstein reports, theU. S.  Supreme Courtvacated the injunctionagainst the Justice Departments execution of Lee, who had been on death row for over two decades.  The High Courts ruling permitted the DOJ to press ahead with a lethal injection that was originally scheduled to occur Monday afternoon.  The Courts 54 ruling also authorizes the DOJ to proceed with executions of three other defendants, scheduled to occur in the next few weeks. In acolumnyesterday, I recounted the grisly facts of Lees prosecution.  He was convicted of capital murder in aid of a racketeering enterprise  specifically, a White supremacist organization, for which he and an accomplice murdered a firearms dealer, along with the dealers wife and child, in robbing their home to steal guns and money.  After shooting them with stun guns and asphyxiating them, Lee and his partner weighted the corpses down with stones and tossed them into the bayou.  The bodies washed up in a lake six months later. DANIEL LEWIS LEE EXECUTED FOR TORTURING, KILLING ARKANSAS FAMILY IN 1996, FIRST FEDERAL EXECUTION IN 17 YEARSLast year, Attorney General Bill Barr announced plans to proceed with the executions of death-penalty convicts, some of whom have languished on death row for a quarter-century.  There are about five dozen prisoners in the federal system who have been sentenced to death for capital murder, but there have been only three federal executions since 1988, and none since 2003. Congressional Democrats target Confederate symbols at Capitol, US milita...

Youve heard of defund the police.  Now, defund the Confederates. Congressional Democrats are on the march against Confederate symbolism inside the U. S.  Capitol and on military bases across the country.  Theyre targeting annual spending bills which fund the government. Purse strings are the ultimate authority in Congress.  You want to understand how lawmakers feel about a given program or policy? Follow the money.  Did Democrats spend $4 on a given item when Republicans would spend $6? Or vice versa? How much money Congress spends dictates policy, whether it be federal appropriations for a warship or upkeep of a Confederate statue. Twelve annual appropriations bills fund the government each fiscal year.  The furor over controversial figures is central to five of those bills: Legislative Branch, Military Construction/VA, Defense, Financial Services and Interior. I continue to be greatly sad and at times outraged that we as a nation have not made more progress to address racism and the cruel legacy of the Confederacy, said House Appropriations Interior Subcommittee Chairwoman Betty McCollum (D-MN).  Im including in this bill a line which requires the National Park Service remove all Confederate commemorative works. McCollum added lawmakers needed to confront the truth of our history and work to right past wrongs. NOT ALL STATUES ARE THE SAME: PELOSI SAYS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REMOVING CONFEDERATE LEADERS, PAST PRESIDENTSHouse Democrats originally drafted a $694 billion defense measure to fund the Pentagon, by far the largest of the 12 spending measure.  The first run of the legislation featured a $1 million allocation to rename facilities bearing Confederate names, like Fort Bragg. The Senate hasnt prepped its spending bills yet.  But in an interview with WDRB-TV in Louisville, KY, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he doesnt oppose some changes. I dont think we can erase history.  But theres certainly

Alfredo Ortiz: AOC & Dems launch absurd boycott of Goya Foods after CEO ...

I proudly joined President Trump at a White House eventThursday announcing his Hispanic Prosperity Initiative, an executive order to improve Latinos access to educational and economic opportunities.  Along with several other Hispanic leaders, I will serve as a commissioner of this important campaign. Unfortunately,Democratic politicians and activists immediately launched a ridiculous boycott campaign against Goya Foods, whose CEO, Bob Unanue, is a fellow commissioner. Goya Foods is the largest Hispanic-owned food business in the U. S. , employingmore than 4,000 people, many of them Latino, and indirectly supporting the livelihoods of countless more.  The family-owned company, founded by immigrants, isdonating1 million pounds of chickpeas and 1 million pounds of other products to food banks across the nation to help needy families. GOYA FOODS CEO WONT APOLOGIZE IN FACE OF BOYCOTT, BACKLASH FOR PRO-TRUMP REMARKS: SUPPRESSION OF SPEECH"We are blessed, and we want to give back,"Unanue said. Yet Trumps outreach efforts to minorities have always triggered a particular case of Trump Derangement Syndrome among Democrats and activists.  According to Pew, Hispanics will be thelargest block of minority votersin the 2020 election for the first time.  Democrats and their allies dont want anything cutting into the lock-step Hispanic support they take for granted. President Trump has already been one of the best presidents in history for Hispanic Americans.  Before the coronavirus pandemic, Hispanics median incomesreached record highs, while their unemployment rate reached an all-time low. The presidents tax cuts and deregulation disproportionately helped Hispanics, who arenearly twiceas likely to start their own business as other ethnicities.  This executive order will bolster these gains and accelerate the nations economic recovery. Yet none of this has stopped Goya from being targeted by the anti-Trump mob.  Following their outrage

Covid-19: Indian dozes off at Dubai airport, misses repatriation flight ...

DUBAI: A 53-year-old Indian worker in the UAEhas missed a special repatriation flight after he dozed off at the DubaiInternational Airport, a media report said. P Shajahan, who worked as a storekeeper in Abu Dhabi, was supposed to fly to Thiruvananthapuramon the Emirates jumbo jet chartered by the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre(KMCC) Dubai, Gulf News reported.

It was the first-ever jumbo jet chartered for repatriation. Shajahan, who had paid 1,100 dirham ($300) for the ticket, said that he did not sleep on the previous night as he kept on waiting for the confirmation of his ticket for the jumbo jet flying 427 stranded Indians to Kerala, it said. He reached the airport early in the morning and after finishing the check-in procedures and rapid test, he reached the waiting area of the boarding gate at Terminal 3 around 2 PM local time, the report said. I sat away from most of the others.  But I fell asleep after 4. 30 PM, he said. S Nizamudeen Kollam, who coordinated the charter flight, said that the airline officials could not trace Shajahan when the flight was to take off. He woke up and called us after the flight left.

It is sad that he missed the flight, which was the first-ever jumbo jet chartered for repatriation.  We are now trying to send him on another Emirates flight that we are chartering on Saturday, Kollam said. Since Shajahan did not have any money, Jasimkhan Kallambalam, organising secretary of KMCC Thiruvananthapuram, went to the airport to meet him on Friday. Since his visa was cancelled, he could not come out of the airport.  He had only eaten the snacks in the kit KMCC had given.  We managed to give him some cash for buying food through KMCC volunteer Alamsha Latheef, Kallambalam said. In March, another Indian expat had fallen asleep in the same terminal and missed the last flight home before flights were suspended due to the Covid-19pandemic. He was stranded here for over 50 days before getting repatriated.

Swimming pool alternatives for your home that wont break the bank

To pool or not to pool. Anyone who has a backyard has at least entertained the idea of getting a swimming pool.  Theres no better way to beat the heat than taking a dive into some nice, cool water. Of course, getting a swimming pool is easier said than done.  Aside from the expense, pools take up a lot of space and require a significant amount of maintenance.  For many homeowners, it just isnt practical to dig a big hole in the backyard and permanently fill it with water. Fortunately, there are alternatives. THE TRUE COST OF ADDING A SWIMMING POOL TO YOUR HOUSEOne of the simplest alternatives is called a stock tank.  According to Realtor. com, a stock tank can be installed for about $500, which is significantly cheaper than many above ground pools.  The site does recommend adding a filter pump or emptying the tank regularly to keep the water clean. FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK FOR MORE FOX LIFESTYLE NEWSFor people who want to cool off, but arent necessarily looking to swim, a misting system might be the answer.  A misting fan can be added to a backyard for about $100 and it easily connects to a garden hose to provide a nice cooling mist. Some people simply like having a pool for the atmosphere it creates.  Instead of adding an entire pool, these homeowners could consider adding water features (fountains, artificial waterfalls, etc).  An added benefit, according to PoolPricer. com is that these features actually have a higher chance of increasing the value of a house than a pool (which can actually scare away buyers). CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPAnother option for cooling off is an outdoor shower.  If a backyard has the proper privacy options, HGTV. ca recommends installing an outdoor shower for a unique way to beat the heat.

Coronavirus vaccine: Top science academy says ICMR heads August 15 vacci...

New Delhi: The letter from the ICMR director general asking researchers to speed up trials and processesto meet the governments deadline of August 15 and be the first in the race to launch a vaccine for Covid-19has attracted widespread criticism and dented the credibility and reputation of the countrys apex research organisation.

On Sunday, Indias foremost science academy, the Indian Academyof Sciences, decried the Indian Council of Medical Researchs directive and the August 15 target to launch the vaccine. As a body of scientists, including many who are engaged in vaccine development, IASc believes that the announced timeline is unfeasible.  This timeline has raised unrealistic hope and expectations in the mind of our citizens, IASc said.  It cautioned that vaccine development required scientifically executed clinical trials and while there was an unquestioned urgent need, any hasty solution may compromise rigorous scientific process and standards.

Renowned public health advocate Mira Shiva of Public Health Movementsaid, ICMR has been responsible for developing the National Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research, which lay out details of processes regarding informed consent etc.  We would like to see the Ethical Guidelines for Clinical Trialsbeing followed.  If on one hand instructions are given for fast forwarding clinical trials of the vaccine for August 15 and that it is being monitored at the top most level of the government, the message is clear about the deadline.  A line is added that any non-compliance, would be viewed seriously. With whom does accountability lie if safety and efficacy issues are blindspotted in an attempt to meet the deadline of August 15.  Worse would be if on the basis of these fast forward clinical trial results, the vaccine is introduced with the public made passive recipients.  While ICMR tried to defend its DGs letter by saying it was only meant to cut red tape, it failed to appease...

Activist urging an Fourth of July boycott says black experience in US ha...

A debate broke out Thursday night on "The Ingraham Angle" about the Fourth of July holiday and whether or not the black experience in the country improved over the last few centuries. Scotty Smart, an activist urging the boycott of Independence Day, said the country has fallen woefully short when it comes to providing justice and liberty for black people.  Smart said "nothing thats been great for black people" since 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Horace Cooper, the Project 21 co-chair,disagreed with Smarts assessment. "In 1776, there were thousands of free black men who joined in the fight to help secure liberty and freedom," Cooper said.  "It is an absolute insult to the sacrifice that those people made to say that we were not, well, free. "The two men disagreed with each other and questioned the others knowledge of the subject. "Stay away from eating the Tide Podsand look at the history book.  And what you will see is there are a number of black Americans throughout history who stood on the side of freedom and liberty," Cooper said.  "This celebration is for everyone who supports liberty. APPSmart argued that black Americans still suffer from oppression. "We still havent got equality and justice for our liberty and justice for all," he said.

PG&E to Plead Guilty in 84 Deaths Caused by Camp Fire

Some survivors have criticized the plea agreement as a slap on the wrist for PG&E.

They said local and state officials have repeatedly failed to hold the company, which serves about 16 million people in Northern and Central California, accountable for its failings because PG&E wields enormous economic and political clout in the state.Ms. Wehes son, Tommy, told the court in a written statement that the last time he and his wife heard from her was the night before the fire, when his mother called to say PG&E was cutting off her power.

Mr. Wehe said the company had not made amends for its mistakes. In fact, he said that the company dragged its feet when it came to settling claims with those who lost homes and loved ones in fires started by its equipment and, later, sought to chip away at the compensation it did agree to.They have put profits over people year after year and the state of California just keeps letting it happen, Mr. Wehe said in his statement. The companys acceptance of guilt is inconsequential if the appropriate safety measures are not enacted to prevent the future loss of life and property.

The California Public Utilities Commission separately fined PG&E almost $2 billion for its negligence in causing the wildfire. And the company could face additional penalties for violating the probation it was placed on after its six convictions for the San Bruno explosion. No company employees or executives are expected to face prison time. The outcome of the Camp Fire case could also influence a federal judge overseeing PG&Es probation arising from the gas explosion case. That judge, William H. Alsup, has the power to impose new penalties on the company for violating its probation.California state law limited how much the district attorney could try to extract from PG&E for each manslaughter charge. And larger fines from regulatory agencies might have placed too large a financial burden on the company as it races to emerge from bankruptcy.
